ADSS will not start. Event log says it has no exception data. Help!

Here is the system log:

The description for Event ID 7024 from source Service Control Manager cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

ManageEngine ADSelfService Plus

The locale specific resource for the desired message is not present

(that weird error code happens to be 2^32. Hmm.)

When I attempt to manually start the service, a Services error dialog says "contact the service vendor and refer to service-specific error code -1.

I found this java exception in the log file named "serverOut_today's-date.txt".
