AppManager bundles old versions of various depencies (like the JRE and MySQL)

At the moment we're researching the possibility to get Applications Manager working on a Linux environment. During initial testing I've noticed that the Applications Manager bundles various libraries. Upon a closer look I've found out that these bundled dependencies are already quite old.
Here's a list of bundled component which I've found so far including the date at which they were released:
Java JRE 1.5.0_11 - released February 2007
MySQL 5.0.52-enterprise - released November 2007
MySQL Connector/J 3.0.15-ga - released September 2004
Tomcat 5.5.20 - released September 2006
Is there any particular reason why Applications Manager bundles components which are already over 5 years old and which aren't supported any more by their upstream developers?
