Is there a way to change the polling frequency of the monitors to an ESX host?
By default they are all at 5 minutes and if you edit the monitor, you can't change the preriod.
The same polling is assign to the host itself meaning that data is collected every 5 minutes, does this mean that if the server loose network connectivity a critical alarm will be raise only 25 minutes later? (5 polling with a ping failed)
1 ping failed after 5 minutes (1 x 5min) will raise a Attention alarm
3 ping failed after 15 minutes (3 x 5min) will raise a Trouble alarm
5 ping failed after 25 minutes (5 x 5min) will raise a Critical alarm
Is this right? Is it possible to change polling frequency for ESX hosts?
The polling frequency is not changeable via UI for the monitors associated with the ESX server. Apart from the device availability monitors, we have an additional internal monitor to check the web-service connection of the ESX servers in an interim of two minutes. On couple of consecutive failures, a critical alarm will be raised to notify the HTTPS connection failure with those ESX server. This alarm should help getting notified within a short period on such network connectivity problems. And, I accept that we need to provide options to configure these polling frequencies for important monitors such as device availability for betterment. We'll address this limitation soon by considering the importance it deems.
We can provide workaround to configure device availability polling frequency for the ESX servers, which require database intervention. Please contact us at opmanager-support [at] manageengine [dot] com, we'll send you the appropriate steps or assist over the remote session to configure the poll frequencies.
