Hi, I would like to know if Web NMS is the right tool for receiving equipment alerts (from Power Supply) that are in CORBA format? In addition, once the alerts received, i would like to forward it to SNMP server (means require conversion from CORBA format to SNMP) Please advice. Thanks, Goboxe

 Hi,

Could you please explain your requirement in detail. We believe your requirement is to receive alerts from your device. Do your device send these alerts using CORBA protocol ? If it is not CORBA, through what protocol does you device send these alerts ?

Yes, the device (a Power Supply) is sending alerts using CORBA.

Dear Amin,

Web NMS by default will not receive CORBA notifications. By default Web NMS will receive notifications in SNMP and TL1 protocol. From your mail we understand that you have some alerts in your device and you want to pull those in Web NMS. If your device can send those alerts as equivalent SNMP traps, then it would be really simple. The Web NMS can receive these alerts as SNMP traps. The Web NMS will convert them to events and alerts. So now your devices alerts will be got in Web NMS.

If your device cannot sent those alerts as SNMP traps, then you need to write an implementation code that uses CORBA protocol to connect to your device and pull up that alert. You can plugin that implementation code in the alert processing mode of Web NMS. Please refer the following doucment where you can plugin any custom protocol  in fault module of Web NMS. Here you should plugin the CORBA impl:

http://www.webnms.com/webnms/help/developer_guide/fault_management/fault_pluginprotocol.html

Please get back to us for any further clarifications.

Barath Kumar
