Did you know - How to change database server to MS SQL?

ADSelfService Plus comes packaged with a default PostgreSQL database. But, it also
lets you to change the database server to MySQL or MS SQL.

Steps to be followed while migrating to MS SQL:

1. Download and install the latest version of ADSelfService Plus.
2. Copy the files bcp.exe and bcp.rll from MS SQL installation directory to <ADSelfService Plus Home> \ bin folder.
3. Check whether the " SQL Server Browser" service is running on the server where MS SQL is installed. If not, please start the service.
Note: ADSelfService Plus can communicate with your MS SQL database only when this service is up and running.
4. If ADSelfService Plus and MS SQL Server are installed on different machines, download the same version of MS SQL Server Native Client and install it on the machine where ADSelfService Plus is installed.
5. Open an elevated command prompt and navigate to  <ADSelfService Plus Home> \ bin
  • Run changeDB.bat to configure the MS SQL server. Running this file will not migrate any data from the default PostgreSQL to the MS SQL database. To migrate your data, along with server configuration, run changeDB.bat<space>true.
6. On executing the command, the DB configuration wizard opens. In the wizard:
  • Choose Server type as MS SQL server.[Refer image]
  • Enter the Host Name and Port of the SQL server.
  • Enter the name of your database.
  • Select the authentication type using the "Connect Using:" option. The two options available for authentication are:
                                1. Windows Authentication
                               2. SQL Server Authentication
  • For Windows Authentication, enter the Domain Name, User Name, and Password.
Note: Windows Authentication can't be used when ADSelfService Plus server and MSSQL server are residing in different domains. In this case, use SQL Server Authentication.
  • For  SQL Server Authentication,  enter the MS SQL server’s User Name and Password.
  • Click Test. If the test fails, resolve the issue and try again.
  • Click Save. It will take few minutes to configure the settings of the SQL Server database.
Note: ADSelfService Plus creates a new database on the MS SQL server during this process.

7.  Start ADSelfService Plus. It should now work with MS SQL Server as the database.
