Is the SCP username / password database encrypted?

Is the SCP username / password database encrypted?

Our auditors are requesting information on how usernames and passwords are protected in SCP.  I assume this request is based on the number of recent data breaches that have been occurring.

Specifically - are the user names and passwords encrypted, and if so - what type of encryption and hashing / salting is used.
