Script monitoring - Connect to Named SQL Instance

Script monitoring - Connect to Named SQL Instance

When I write script to monitor a server with multiple SQL instances, do I have to write multiple scripts for each instances.  If not can you give me an example of a SQLCMD or Powershell script.
