Search asset history / include asset history in searches

How do I include asset history when seaching assets for a user name?
Or to put it another way, how do I search asset history records for a user name?
Obviously you need to know who had something and when as well as who has it now, but if you don't know what they had only that they had something, you need to include asset history in searches.
