Opmanager 11600 with MSSQL DB, Nokia modem on serial COM port

Is it possible to automate the sending of an SMS heartbeat message once a day/week from OpManager?  Our SMS modem stopped working which we didn't know about so no SMS's were sent when we had an issue so we would like to know the SMS modem is working without having to physically login and manually sending an SMS. Have checked through the forums but found no similar request.
