Hello,

I work for EMS (Element Management System). We are using the Adventnet stack for receiving the traps from Network element.

I have tried collecting the traps at snoop. I see all the UDP packets (traps) sent from the Network Element at snoop properly.

But at AdventNet level the following observations are made

  1. For few Network Elements majority of the traps are getting lost before Advent Stack itself. I.e. I do not see majority of the traps at advent stack itself.
  2. For few other Network Elements all the traps are getting lost before Advent Stack itself. I.e. I do not see all the traps at advent stack itself.

We have as well enabled fire wall b/w NE and our Element management system in both the directions.

Is there a chance that any buffer which is there between snoop and Advent stack where the traps are getting lost?

I would like to know the reasons which lead to above problem.

Please help me for clarifying the same.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,

Radhika S

Hi Radhika,

Can you let me know the version of the SNMP traps and no. of traps sent per second?

Regards,
Amarnath

Hello Amarnath,

Thanks for the reply.

We are using the SNMPv2c version. We are receiving the average of 3060 traps per hour for 153 NE’s.

We found this problem once again today. This time trap rate is 20 traps/hour for each NE with 151 NEs configured.

We found this problem very recently and happening multiple times.

We had never faced this problem before even with the same (as explained above) rate.

Please find attached snoop file for todays problem.

Your quick reply will help us in analyzing the problem better.

Thanks & Best regards,

Radhika S
