Support to scan Windows 98 computers using WMI is now available in ServiceDesk Plus [Release 4.1]. Given below is the procedure for setting-up WMI in a Windows 98 workstation, to scan it using ServiceDesk Plus.
INSTALLING WMI : Windows Management Instrumentation and DCOM do not come pre-installed with Windows 98. These two can be installed as add-on in the Windows 98 computers.

To start the WMI service automatically, you must make the following changes in the target computer's registry :
1. Select
Start >
Run. Type
REGEDIT in the text field and press Enter. This opens the System Registry Editor.
2. Under the key
HKLM\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\OLE, set
EnableDCOM? to "
Y"
3. In the registry under the key
HKLM\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\OLE, set
EnableRemoteConnect? to "
Y"
4. In the system registry, navigate to
\HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\wbem\cimom, and set
AutostartWin9X to "

CONFIGURING WMI :Certain configurations needs to be performed in the Windows 98 computers' WMI for connecting it from remote computers.
1. Select
Start >
Run. Type
WBEMCNTL in the text field and press ENTER. This should open "WMI Control" frame.
2. Click on the "
Advanced" tab.
3. Check the "
Enable Anonymous Connection with share level security" check box.
4. Click "
OK"
5. After performing all the above mentioned modifications, restart the machine.
