Change in Adobe Patch Download Policy

Change in Adobe Patch Download Policy

Hi Folks,

There seems to be a change in the Adobe download policy which is in turn affecting the download of these patches in Desktop Central.

What is the change?

Adobe had recently changed their patch download policy by hiding the direct download links to their patches. This is applicable to Adobe Air, Flash Player, Reader and Shockwave Player applications.

What is the impact?

Without the link to the patch, Desktop Central will not be able to update these patches to the computers missing them, as the patch download fails with 404 error as indicated in remarks.

These computers, however, will be able to update these patches online from the Adobe website directly.

Workaround

While we are currently working on supporting this in Desktop Central, you can manually update these patches offline as described below:
  • Visit this URL in adobe website: http://www.adobe.com/products/players/flash-player-distribution.html
  • Obtain a license for offline distribution by clicking the "Apply to distribute Flash Player" button
  • Sign in with your Adobe credentials. If you do not have one, register and login
  • Fill in the required details and submit.
  • You will receive a link to download the patch via email within 48 hours.
  • Distribute this patch using the Software Deployment module in Desktop Central to the required computers.
Cheers,
