Hi all,

Greetings from Desktop Central Technical Support Team.

A quick intermittent update on the Java download issue.  Recentrly Oracle has introduced License Agreement acceptance while downloading the product.  This is causing the issue with Java downloads.  Desktop Central team is working on this to handle it.  However, during that time you can deploy the recent Java patches as prescribed below.
Step1 : Please download the executables from the URL given below
Step2 : Now rename the executables by prefixing the given numbers.
  • jre-7u4-windows-x64.exe as 300320-jre-7u4-windows-x64.exe
  • jre-7u4-windows-i586.exe as 300318-jre-7u4-windows-i586.exe
  • jre-6u32-windows-x64.exe as 300323-jre-6u32-windows-x64.exe
  • jre-6u32-windows-i586.exe as 300321-jre-6u32-windows-i586.exe
Step3 : Copy all Java files to 'Desktop Central Server Patch store' directory and paste.  Now you can sync the patch DB and deploy the java updates.
This would help you to deploy the latest patches in Java.

Trust this helps.

Hi Romanus,

Can you please verify which directory is the "store directory" from Step 3 above?

Thanks!

Gary
These patches initially downloaded and gave a message of failed check sum...

I've put the corrected version in the store.
Anyone have probelms after they are deployed?

Steve M AHP Inc.
Hi Gary

Appreciate your question.

The default location would be under <DesktopCentral_Server\webapps\DesktopCentral\store> directory in the file system.  However, you can find the location from the Patch Mgmt tab -> click left hand side Downloaded Patches, look at the right hand side under Downloaded patches heading which would carry the current location of your store.  Next to that you can find the link to change your patch store.

Trust this helps.

After copying the files to the store, How do you sync the patch DB?

Thanks.
Hi edwardpc

Appreciate your post.

You can use manual vulnerability DB update under the Patch Management tab -> left hand side bottom Update Vulnerability DB.  Actually, the best sequence can be
  • Sync the Vulnerability DB
  • Scan
  • Manually copy the downloaded files
  • Deploy the Java patches.

Hi Romanus,

I am having the same problem with failed validation checksum after downloading and copying to the store. I did as you have explained in the post above by renaming them also.

Hi,

We had same kind of issues that others have described above.

I was lazy and I renamed the java updates by copy&pasting filenames directly from this forum, for example: 300320-jre-7u4-windows-x64.exe I ended up renaming the file as 300320-jre-7u4-windows-x64.exe.exe because Windows2008 R2 doesn't show the extensions by default I didn't notice this right away. :P

So what I did is that I removed the duplicate extensions from the java updates and after that java updates started working fine.

Step2 : Now rename the executables by prefixing the given numbers.
  • jre-7u4-windows-x64.exe as 300320-jre-7u4-windows-x64
  • jre-7u4-windows-i586.exe as 300318-jre-7u4-windows-i586
  • jre-6u32-windows-x64.exe as 300323-jre-6u32-windows-x64
  • jre-6u32-windows-i586.exe as 300321-jre-6u32-windows-i586
Hopefully this helps!

Cheers!

What's the ETA from Manage Engine on a resolution so that we don't have to continue manual updates for Java?
Hi Guest

Thanks for the follow-up post.

The patch management team is working on an Generic framework to capture these scenarios to be handled in the UI.  Let me check with them and give you an update.

I am not sure what I am doing wrong but I just can't get this working.

It works fine for the 300323-jre-6u32-windows-x64 patch, however, the 300320-jre-7u4-windows-x64 patch keeps failing.

I manually downloaded the installation file, renamed it to 300320-jre-7u4-windows-x64.exe and copied it into the appropriate folder. Then I synced the DB. As soon as I deploy the patch, Desktop Central tries to download it again which results in a checksum validation error.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

Hey Romanus,

Just a heads up. The correct down link for JRE 6 update 33 is

http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre6-downloads-1637595.html

The one you referenced is for the older update 32 one.

Gary

Your link is for 7.4 yet you reference 7.5 patch.

What if a machine needs to stay on a version of Java due to a website that isn't compatable with a different version.  How do we isolate that machine from patch updates?

Sort of like how you ignore systems with prohibited software when they are uniquely authorized.
Hi eetwiz,

Thanks for pointing the URL. The URL is now pointing the new corrected URL.
Step1 : Please download the executable from the URL given below
Step2 : Now rename the executable by prefixing the given numbers.
  • jre-7u5-windows-x64.exe as 300330-jre-7u5-windows-x64.exe

  • jre-6u33-windows-x64.exe as 300333-jre-6u33-windows-x64.exe
  • jre-6u33-windows-i586.exe as 300331-jre-6u33-windows-i586.exe

Hi All

Greetings from Desktop Central Technical Support Team.

Java Download Issue Fixed.

The Java download issue has been handled in the Build 80029.  So there is no need to follow the manual mode of download.  The hotfix 80029 was announced available through the June 2012 Newsletter.  You can download the Build from the below URL
http://www.manageengine.com/products/desktop-central/service-packs.html

Important: Please ensure to take a backup of the Desktop Central installation directory (<Install_Dir>/DesktopCentral_Server) to avoid any data loss during the upgrade process.

NOTE : For deploying any configuration/task, you need to wait for agents to upgrade which will be done within 90 mins of hotfix installation

For instructions to install hotfix, please refer the following web site:

http://manageengine.adventnet.com/products/desktop-central/service-packs.html#instructions

Appreciate your co-operation and understanding.
