Script Master - 10: How to integrate ServiceDesk Plus with HipChat.

Hello users,

Here I come with another interesting script that helps you integrate ServiceDesk Plus with HipChat. Before I go into the details, allow me to give you a quick introduction about HipChat. HipChat is a hosted group chat platform built for teams that collaborate through persistent chat rooms, file and screen shares. HipChat also includes cloud-based file storing, video calling capability, message-history searching and inline-image viewing.

Integrating HipChat with ServiceDesk Plus enables you to receive instant alerts in your HipChat chatroom whenever a ticket is created. This way, you can stay up-to-date on your support tickets and quickly rope in your team when a complicated ticket comes in.

You can create chat rooms for different support groups and setup a custom trigger that automatically forward the request information to the respective chat rooms when a high impact request comes in. The members in the chat room will be instantly notified either through a desktop popup  or through a push notification using the mobile app. To do this, you can use the script available here.

Execution steps:

1. Copy the script file into the \Manageengine\ServiceDesk\integration directory.

2. Update the authorization token and the name of the respective chat room  in the script. Also, you can customize the text posted in the chat room.

3. Configure the script under the  Admin  ->  Custom Triggers . Provide the path of the request json file as the input to the script.

I've attached a screenshot showing a sample implementation below.

Note:

1. This script was tested on python v3.4.1 - 32 bit.

2. You can use this script in any version of ServiceDesk Plus above 9039.

3. A python library called 'Requests' is necessary to run this script on the application server.

To make the best use of this, take a look at the comments in the script and the related post in our resources section.
